A new, comprehensive cancer care facility has received development approval to be built in Caboolture with building works commencing this month and with patient treatment expected to start mid-2024.

The new Cancer Care Moreton Bay development, to be delivered by long standing local developer QM Properties, will provide a state-of-the-art cancer care facility with comprehensive services for the Moreton Bay community, including radiation oncology consulting and treatment, haematology and medical oncology consulting and treatment. A dedicated oncology pharmacy, access to research and clinical trials and pathology services will also be included in the development.

Cancer Care Associates Chief Executive Officer, Damien Williams said outer metropolitan suburbs and regional areas require access to high-quality and affordable cancer treatment.

“The Council, Queensland Government’s Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, and the community’s support of this vital development has been incredible,” he said.

“The region is experiencing significant population growth and this new cancer care centre is aimed at eliminating the need to travel to Brisbane with comprehensive and high-quality cancer service closer to home.

“Our radiation oncology treatment service will also provide access to bulk billing for people who have financial difficulties, ensuring patients can access potentially life-saving treatment, close to home with no out-of-pocket costs.”

This project will generate $32.3M in economic activity alone during the construction phase and a recurring annual economic impact of $2.4M for the life of the project. It also supports 122 jobs, 19 of which are ongoing.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said Cancer Care Associates’ commitment to providing access to advanced technologies, specialised care, and treatment services is a welcome addition to Moreton Bay’s growing healthcare sector.

“Our city has Australia’s third largest population growth, and the new facility is a great addition to Caboolture’s health precinct.

“There is a need in our community for access to high quality and comprehensive cancer care services in Moreton Bay, so it’s wonderful to see this initiative going ahead.

“This development will bring specialised roles to the area while allowing residents who require these services to continue to live and work in Moreton Bay,” he said.

The Moreton Bay facility will be Cancer Care Associates’ first facility in Queensland providing critical comprehensive cancer care services to local communities.
