Palliative and Support Care Specialist

Dr Johnathan Man is a palliative and supportive care specialist working to serve the Sutherland Shire.

His role is to improve the quality of life of patients with significant or serious illness. Dr Man helps people at many different stages of illness, ranging from patients whose life expectancy is many many years, to those who are reaching the final stage of life.

He offers specialist expertise in relief of pain, breathlessness, nausea, constipation, anxiety and many other distressing symptoms. He also uses his experience to journey alongside patients and their carers, and provide them with an extra layer of professional support and advice during the course of the illness.

He performs home visits to patients who live in the Sutherland Shire (suburbs listed below). He can see patients who live outside those suburbs in clinic at Southside Cancer Centre, Miranda.

He strives to provide all his patients with extremely attentive care and compassion. He prioritises adequate time to know his patients well and answer questions, and understands the importance of strong attention to detail to give patients and carers the best possible healthcare experience.

Dr Man has strong experience in managing both patients with cancer, and serious illnesses apart from cancer. He is also a qualified medical oncologist though is not currently working in this role, and therefore has an in-depth understanding of cancer medicine.

At Sutherland Public Hospital, he runs the Respiratory Supportive Care Service, where he sees patients with non-malignant lung conditions who live with long term breathlessness, focussing on optimising their quality of life.

He has significant past and present experience in clinical teaching, clinical trials and other medical research, including multiple publications.

He also consults on patients ̄admitted to Sutherland Public Hospital, St George Private Hospital and Hurstville Private Hospital.
